Theater of the Absurd

We are nearly two years away for the presidential election, yet the quadrennial rights of American power has commenced…and with a vengeance.

We are inundated with photo-ops, sound bites 24/7 coming from the news channels. The self-anointed experts dissect and translate the nuance’ of plain English, lest we miss something important. The 4th. Estate is reveling in a drug-induced high, as the actors play their scenes, and bow to them in hopes of getting print coverage on a meaningful page. There is of course the obligatory “saber-rattling” between contenders much to the delight of the audience, which only heightens the political “blood lust” that will surely follow. Yes…the coliseum is filled with rabid fans cheering on their respective gladiators.

Sitting up in the highest reaches of this theater in a darkened place, sits a lone entity. She is quiet as she stares transfixed at the spectacle before her. Her eyes are moist and tired. Her face has taken on wooden texture and patina, devoid of the vibrant life that one graced it. At her feet, lay faded documents that once spoke of promise and hope…of freedom and equality. They are fragile now and susceptible to the ravages of malaise. She dares not stand and speak out, for fear of being shouted down. How dare she interrupt the glorious spectacle before her with thoughts of rationality and sanity? She surely would be driven from this place.

Yes…we can all look forward to the promise of the American Dream that will be spread before us in the coming months. Get your popcorn now…you wouldn’t want to miss a thing.
